Tip #4 – Do not Give up on your Children, they need you more than you will ever know.
Every book I bring into the home is outright rejected. Feeling dejected and annoyed, I stopped reading for a while!
When we started off on our reading journey, we had a phase where in every book I bought for Aarya was rejected even before we opened the book! If it was not about a car or a truck or something he liked, he wouldn’t even let me open it! Some days he won’t allow me to read the books he liked previously. I was flustered to say the least, and I stopped trying for a while too. But then, I am a mom and I decided that I was NEVER going to give up on my children. And I kept trying. Until he stopped saying no to reading a book.
Sometimes I have felt that I just read 1 book for weeks on end, but I do not stop because that one book might be his ladder to loving books.
Do not feel hurt if the books you love are out-rightly rejected and never read more than that one time, it is OK. I am sure he will grow to love them someday. Or there would be another child who will.
Do not Give up on your Children, they need you more than you will ever know.
