5 Tips to Read Aloud Regularly

Hello Everyone! Day 2 of the #LetsDiscussFreedom and today we talk about Inhibitions! Why do Mama’s dread Read Aloud time?

What holds you back from Reading Aloud Daily?

So yesterday, I went Yada Yada on why reading aloud is important and what can be done to become free and read with intention AND have fun along the way! Even then , I am no Saint, I find it hard to take time out or even to be in the right frame of mind to read to kids!

So I decided to sit an decode what happens in between my “intention” to read and the actual reading?

Preparing my mind

Most of the time you need to be in the right frame of mind. A mind that’s ready to set itself free in the wild wild imagination! And most times there is so much chaos in this mind, you never are able to calm down enough to have the patience to read animatedly.

Fights over which Books to read

OK! So you are in the right frame of mind, and then thekids start fighting over which books they want to read. I did rather not read than handle another fight between the kids!

Random Tantrums

Either of the kids could be in a Bad mood, which means it is a down hill ride anyway!

Just too tired

Sometimes after the daily chores, or the mere thought of chores bog me down, and I am not able to read! Yes, I have been there too! Thinking about the issues, or the chores, or the fights or even the chaos bogs me down too.

But then here are my tips to keep all this and the other things aside, and read.

  • Read Anytime

I know there is a magic to routine, but sometimes it is ok to let go. I have sat with my kids in the loo and read while they did their business ( no kidding!) because I was anyway stuck there with them, so wouldn’t it be better to just use the time creatively?

  • Sing instead

Sometimes when they are in a bad mood, it is better to just sing some songs from the song books, or enact some books out. I LOVE Eric Carle’s “From Head to Toe” in which he tells you what all an animal can do and asks you to imitate it. Perfect way to get the kids moving, balancing, and having fun!

  • Read to the Toys

For active toddlers, there is no way to read with out restricting them from moving, which is not a good idea. Instead, read loudly and read to their favorite teddy or car. I used to do that a LOT, with Aarya!

  • Audio Books

Sometimes you are just tooooo tired, and then instead of screen times, why don’t we try some audio books? The books we read regularly read by Another person. It helps them to listem to different people talking

  • Think Relax

Your mind is under your control, so if you tell it that reading is going to be an awesome experience – it is going to do just that! I always try to start with a book I Love! Like the Room in the Broom! Or a book that’s the kid’s favorite. This instantly puts us in a  good good mood. We try to read one old favorite and one new book every other day!

read aloud

And like everything don’t beat yourself up if you miss a day, or a week, or a month. Be kind to yourself, pick up the book and read today – our time is limited, use reading as your time to bond and have fun!
