Body in the Library by Agatha Christie

“You bet it does. Do you like detective stories? I do. I read them all and I’ve got autographs from Dorothy Sayers and Agatha Christie and Dickson Carr and H. C. Bailey. Will the murder be in the papers?”
-pg. 61

What kind of person who loves crime fiction, has not read Agatha Christie? And what kind of person can’t remember the books she has read of hers long back?

The answer to the last question has to be Veens. Really, I am sure I have read her books, but I have no idea which ones, and to make it even worse I think I have never read Miss Marple series, how is that even possible? I am all thanks to Kals @ At Pemberley for hosting a challenge that made me realize this awful misgiving and I am glad I started this challenge with Ms. Marple.

How can you not LOVE Ms. Marple. You cannot help love her drawing those awesome village parallels, and her insight on common human behavior.

After all the gushing, here is a little something about this book 😉

There is a body of a platinum blonde found in the library of Gossington Hall. What the young woman was doing in the quiet village of St. Mary Mead is precisely what Jane Marple means to find out. With a host of weird and some nice character including the small Peter who made the quote above, this is a fascinating read. By the middle of the book, I was suspecting everyone of the characters and the end was quite a surprise. I loved it!

The only problem being, I am getting dreams of me being Ms. Marple (minus the age) and doing some amateur sleuthing here in Mysore. I knew there would be side-effects of reading Agatha Christie 😉

  1. I haven’t read Agatha Christie or Ms. Marple! 🙁 Strange I never picked it up!
Have heard a lot about Ms Marple in recent times, and would love to read it sometime.. Think I’d like it!

  2. Oh, I love Agatha Christie…she’s my fave mystery writer. I like Miss Marple, but Hercule Poirot is my man! Do read The Murder of Roger Ackroyd….I guarantee you will never guess the murderer, and the writing is so clever 🙂

  3. Yay, I’m glad there’s another Miss Marple fan, Veens 😀 And I’m happier that you liked Christie. She’s one of those must-read authors whose books are incredibly evergreen!

  4. I dive into Agatha Christie fare when i want something relaxing.. I think i like Poirot more than Marple.. but that could be becos i havent read too many Miss Marple mysteries.

  5. Veens it wasn’t until a few years ago that I finally read an Agatha Christie book and I also call myself a mystery fan! haha… I’ve read a few of her books now and really enjoy them. I can understand why they are classic mysteries. If you want to try a Poirot book try The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.

  6. I love mysteries, but have only listened to one of her books. One of these days I’m going to read them all in order. I think there’s a challenge.

I love to hear your thoughts!
