Write 31 days – How NOT to kill the reading habit in kids with Book Recommendations for boys

Yeah, I know I am 6 days late and most probably will slack off around the middle…but that doesn’t stop me from trying!

So for the next 31–6 = 25 or 26 days I will be sharing –

1) Tips on how to NOT kill the reading habit in your kid.

2) Absolute Favorite books of Aarya = Some awesome book recommendation for the boys in your life!

So here we go!

Tip #1 = Even if the book he selects is a book you do not think has any “value”; do NOT discourage!

Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.

–Maya Angelou

Aarya’s first favorite [like I will take it to bed; read a gazillion times, kind of favorite] was – Colourful Cars ( A little book of colors) from Parragon books! He was a teenyu-tiny tot then.

Colourful Cars A Little Book Of Colours

It featured Aarya’s favorite Lightening McQueen and all the cars in different colors. With rhyming text and pictures of each of the cars in the movie, this was a fabulous books and our copy is so worn out that I am contemplating getting a new edition. It still is Aarya’s favorite. I confess, at one point I had to hide it just so that he will pick some other book for us to read. Book review on Colourful Cars (A little book of colors!) - Parent Rated|

I was worried that he will never read anything else! Was I commercializing… my thoughts were just getting me no where! But all this worrying was in vain, he did find a new favorite and another.

  1. Veens, I have heard that it is good for children to read even the easiest of books, over and over again, so that they experience positive feelings of mastery. Eventually, they will want to read a new to them book, as Aarya did. Terrific post! I am pretty certain that your beautiful children will grow up to be beautiful readers. 🙂 🙂
